End of an Era: SiegedSec, the Hacker Group, Announces Its Dissolution

Pietro Melillo : 11 July 2024 13:04

The cybercriminal group SiegedSec, which gained notoriety during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, has recently announced its dissolution. This group, led by “YourAnonWolf,” quickly consolidated its power by increasing the number of its victims. Describing themselves as “gay furry hackers,” SiegedSec is known for its funny slogans and vulgar language. Their main activities include defacing attacks, sensitive data leaks, and unauthorized access to databases and emails.

The History of SiegedSec

SiegedSec emerged as a significant force in the cybercrime landscape, exploiting the chaos and uncertainty created by the war in Ukraine. The group quickly gained notoriety through a series of high-profile attacks against companies in various sectors, including healthcare, IT, insurance, law, and finance. Their operations targeted companies in countries such as India, Indonesia, South Africa, the United States, the Philippines, and Mexico.

Motivations and Dissolution Announcement

On July 10, 2024, SiegedSec caught attention with a surprising announcement: “It’s time for SiegedSec to disband.” In the published post, they stated: “Yes, this is a sudden announcement. We planned to disband today or tomorrow, but given the circumstances, we believe it is best to do it now. For our own sanity, the stress of mass publicity, and to avoid the eyes of the FBI.”

The group’s leader, known as YourAnonWolf, reflected on his desire to quit cybercrime and mentioned that the other members agreed it was time to let SiegedSec rest for good. In the past, he had tried to leave cybercrime several times without success, but this time he hopes to stay away from these activities for his well-being.

Known Attacks and Consequences

SiegedSec carried out numerous successful attacks against companies in various industries. These attacks included website defacements, theft of sensitive data, and unauthorized access to databases and emails. They targeted companies in countries such as India, Indonesia, South Africa, the United States, the Philippines, Mexico, and others, causing significant damage and attracting media and authorities’ attention.

In their final statement, they mentioned that they had posted their last attacks and sent some private breaches to journalists for disclosure management. The group’s channel, all leaks, and community chats will remain open.

The Community and the Future

SiegedSec thanked its community for the support and invited members to remain active in their communication channels. They quoted a phrase from rapper Ytcracker: “Might as well quit while I’m a free man … a clean slate, just a chance to start fresh.”

In conclusion, while SiegedSec will no longer be an active cybercriminal group, its spirit will live on in the community they built. Members will continue to support the group’s ideals and fight for the rights of others.

Farewell Images

The group shared an emotional ASCII image depicting three cats named “vio,” “kry,” and “kit,” sitting on a fence under a starry sky, with an inscription that reads: “Thank you everyone. Every star is another member, everyone is remembered. Rest in peace. Our fallen members will be remembered forever.”

SiegedSec has left an indelible mark on the world of cybercrime and cybersecurity, and their announcement of dissolution marks the end of an era.
